Avoid the Broad Road To Learn Affiliate Marketing
Something I see new IM’ers doing all the time is marketing the wrong thing… or should I say something they know little if anything about… “making money online”. It only stands to reason if you are a newbie at affiliate marketing that you have little knowledge and no experience on the subject. This is not much of a foundation to place your hopes on… you think?
If you are trying to promote a “make money online” product or service and are just starting out in this career, your readers and potential customers will see right through you. You will also have the deck stacked against you as far as competition goes since most marketers promoting this niche or your specific promotion will have more experience than you. And I didn’t even mention that the actually consumers in this niche are tough cookies… seasoned vetrans of all the hype and a very tough sell.
A better, and I might ad, easier approach for the new IM’er is to promote physical products in a niche that has nothing to do with the “make money” market. Notice I said “physical products”… this means stay away from digital products… at first any way.
Most start out pushing digital products, usually using the Clickbank network. The CB network is great and all but the public is more apt to purchase a real item over a digital product. This is just the nature of the beast… the online consumer. If you go with the flow you will find that it is easier to make some bank and after all, that is what this is all about… right?
Once you accept this strategy and implement it a whole new world of products and opportunities will open up for you. You can pick things you know something about… maybe are even passionate about and this zeal will come across in your articles and content. You will also be able to attack a variety of niches because you know about a lot of different things and can easily learn about new products that are hot.
Once I started thinking along these lines I started making some consistent money with my online marketing efforts. I affiliated with shopping networks like Amazon and eBay and started targeting their “hot” sellers or items I have used and understand.
This type of marketing has all kinds of advantages but the biggest one I experienced is it is so easy to do compared to trying to promote something I was just starting to learn about. You don’t have to be an “expert”… just write and build content around products you have used yourself or your friends and family use. I don’t have trouble with eczema but my brother in law uses this product for his eczema and this is his experience… get the idea?
I have been able to promote everything from baby mattress to xboxes with ease and if an “average joe” like myself can have success I’m sure you could also.
